Until now, my knowledge of the unification of Italy could be summed up in a quote from Homer Simpson "Wish you'd never been unified by Victor Emmanual II. If only you'd stayed a loose confederation of city-states, trading with each other and occasionally warring." I've listed to the 1st podcast and am looking forward to the next! Thanks!

You know, I think I did. My only defense is that, for the purposes of our story, it's pretty much part of Veneto (I'm about to release episode 48, and it hasn't come up so far). But you're right, and it is a distinct region with its own language and culture. Good catch! If I ever go back and re-record early episodes, I'll either add it, or I might just cut out a lot of the geography that never comes up again.

OMG it's not "ca LABE ria" (as in LABE rhymes with Babe - it's "Ca LAB ria" (as in LAB rhymes with Mob).
