Venice Special Episode 3 - The Road to Hell

10/21/2013

In Venice Bonus Episode 2 we explained how the 4th Crusade started. Now we follow it to its tragic conclusion, with the sack of Constantinople by French and Venetian crusaders.

This will be the last Venice bonus episode for a while, as I need to focus more on the Unification episodes, but don't worry! After we're done with the Italian unification, I'm planning to go back and do a full series on Venice.

Hi guys,

I really enjoyed your nice long episode on Venice and the Fourth Crusade. I thought you did a good job describing how and why the decisions were made by the crusaders and I really liked the end where you discuss how the interpitation has changed about Venetian guilt. For nonprofessional historians you are doing a good job.

I would like to encourage you doing more on Venice -- either as a separate podcast or as more specials.

Keep up the good work.

Madeleine

Thanks, we're glad you liked it! The Venice episodes are a lot of fun to work on, but they take time away from the main story, so they're on hold for the moment. If there's a run of episodes later on that mostly feature Adam, that might give me some more time to work on the Venice ones. Either way, I'm planning on doing a full series on Venice after we're done with the Unification.

Loved the bonus episode - did you ever do a complete series with Venice as a focus?

Hi Patrick - I'm afraid I never did find the time to do that, and it doesn't look too promising for the future either. Sorry!
